Car Week is taking over Monterey County on Friday with auctions, historic cars at Laguna Seca, and the highlight event, "The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering." Beautiful people, beautiful cars and lots of champagne define The Quail."I'm having a blast. We just got here. It's my first time here at the car show, and it's very, very impressive," a visitor, Jessica Gomez, said.Maserati, Bugatti, and Pagani are among the familiar names at The Quail, along with lesser-known brands like Koenigsegg, a family-run business from Sweden that set a world record for the fastest production car in 2017."It has always been typical for Koenigsegg, this in-house innovation culture and, you know, breaking the laws of physics and pushing innovation etc., and our fan base just loves it," a Koenigsegg representative, Johan Parson, said.Koenigsegg cars are expensive, costing millions, and exclusive, with only about 60 made each year. Car lovers come to The Quail to see these beauties up close."This car show is like a super high-end fancy dress ball of automotive; all of the hypercars and supercars and companies are pulling the covers off to unveil their new models, to unveil special editions," Car and Driver Senior Editor, Elana Scherr, said.The show features a wide variety of cars, including historical models like a Phil Hill race car, whimsical vehicles like a dune buggy, and Hollywood glam with a replica of James Bond's Aston Martin DB5, complete with special effects."It's the best show on the Monterey Peninsula, in our opinion, because it combines interest in the cars with the social aspect, the food and wine that the peninsula is known for. It is absolutely the best garden party in the world," Victoria Campbell, a returning attendee, said.Victoria is a collector who works on her cars herself.
