When the Central Pacific Railroad reached the site in 1868, a land auction was held, and homes were built almost overnight. The town was renamed for Gen. Jesse Lee Reno of Virginia, a Union officer who was killed at the Battle of South Mountain, Maryland, in the American Civil War.

Massage therapists practicing in Nevada must have a massage therapy license issued by the Nevada State Board of Massage Therapy. The Board was started in 2005 and works to protect the public health, safety and welfare by regulating the massage therapy profession in the Nevada.

Massage establishments are required to obtain a business license and public health permit. However, certain entities and individuals are not required to obtain a public health permit.

Nevada Must be licensed in a state with equal or greater requirements (550 hours). The applicant must submit a copy of his/her current massage license. Official transcripts need to be sent directly to the board from the school or submitted in an unopened envelope with the school seal.

It is not illegal to own, operate or work in a duly licensed massage parlor – but these businesses are often stereotyped and targeted as a front for illegal activities, including prostitution and pimping. In California, massage parlours are often accused of inciting prostitution and engaging in an act of prostitution.
